Siemens Healthcare has announced that its SOMATOM® Definition AS Open – a high-end computed tomography (CT) system that can be dedicated to efficiently cover the needs of both diagnostic radiology and radiation therapy – has been cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Delivering excellent image quality at low dose, the Definition AS Open enables exact contouring for planning while minimizing exposure to the patient. The scanner also has several unique service offerings and is upgradeable for multipurpose use.

Wolfgang Rueger, PhD, vice president, Radiation Oncology, Siemens Healthcare said, Siemens is pleased to offer the SOMATOM Definition AS Open, which introduces state-of-the-art CT imaging to radiation therapy planning. Its ease of use and integration, as well as its ability to deliver excellent or high image quality at low dose, will increase the quality and efficiency of patient care, as well as open the door to new clinical and economic possibilities.
