Tuttlingen, August 2, 2024 − It is well known that KARL STORZ is one of the global market leaders in the field of endoscopy. However, in addition to integration solutions for fully networked operating theaters, the medical technology manufacturer also operates in the production of exoscopes. The VITOM® eagle allows the use of three different fluorescence modes including NIR/ICG, 5-ALA as well as fluorescein. Last one improves the visibility of tumors and the exoscope of KARL STORZ is the only one on the market that enables this functionality. One of the first systems was secured directly by Professor Giovanni Succo in Turin, Italy. Many other doctors are currently testing the innovative MedTech product, which is mainly used in the fields of ENT, head and neck surgery, neurosurgery, spinal surgery, and plastic-reconstructive surgery. The VITOM® eagle enables excellent visualization − even from difficult angles, so that surgeons can operate via monitor in an ergonomic position.
Great enthusiasm in Italy
Professor Succo purchased the VITOM® eagle a few months ago and his experiences so far have been consistently positive. Professor Giorgio Peretti, who practices at the San Martino University Hospital in Genova, Italy, which also acts as a reference center for KARL STORZ, is equally positive. He says: “The VITOM® eagle is a versatile tool designed to provide excellent visualization of small anatomical details. In terms of ergonomics, the surgeon using the VITOM® eagle enjoys unobstructed vision directly towards the screen. The new product allows for the use of laryngoscopes with narrower lumens by reducing the diameter of the light beam spot, thereby reducing light reflection on the laryngoscope walls. The fixed coupling between the VITOM® eagle and the micromanipulator ensures precise collimation.” The ENT and Head and Neck specialist uses the VITOM® eagle in combination with a laser interface to couple a micromanipulator for transoral laser surgery, which is another valuable and unique feature of the VITOM® eagle. Exoscopes are becoming increasingly popular on the market as surgery can be performed via monitors. The VITOM® eagle also makes it possible to display a patient’s anatomy in high magnification and the finest details with very high resolution on the screens. These functions help surgical teams enormously during various procedures and represent an important step forward compared traditional technologies.
Well thought-out and innovative from front to back
Another advantage is that the new VITOM® eagle is compatible with KARL STORZ endoscopic equipment, meaning that a doctor can use an existing IMAGE1 S™ camera system, for example. Light sources such as the Rubina or Saphira and, of course, the innovative AIDA documentation system also work perfectly with the new product and produce razor-sharp images of patients. Good visualization can thus take microsurgical procedures to the next level and further increase surgical success. Surgeons can also be pleased, as better posture during the procedure will also ensure essential progress here. And it was precisely this feedback that was recently received from a hospital in Warsaw, Poland, where a VITOM® eagle system is also currently being tested. After just a short time, it is clear that the innovative product has been well received in the medical world and is expected to soon have more users all over the world.
